Thanks to the well developed economy hinterland, i.e. Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou and Yangtze River basin, especially the sound development of foreign-oriented economy of state-level development regions like Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou National New & High-tech Industrial Development Zone and Kunshan Economic & Technical Development Zone as well as various provincial development zones, Taicang Port has long been enjoying sufficient cargo supply.

In 2008, the total foreign trade value of Suzhou reached USD228.5 billion and the generated foreign trade container volume was about 6.7 million TEUs.
